The progression of this season is usually accompanied by rain and fog, leading to lower temperatures and increased humidity. These factors raise the risk of catching colds and other ailments. However, before rushing to the pharmacy, mother nature provides us with products useful for preventing and combating these issues. Chestnuts, pears, and grapes are fruits that, with their natural properties, adequately meet these needs.
\nThe chestnut is the quintessential fruit of October. It is very rich in starches, making it nutritious and energy-giving, but that’s not all: it contains a high percentage of minerals such as potassium and sulfur, which act as antiseptics and disinfectants. The presence of sugars makes chestnuts a suitable alternative food for children allergic to cow\u2019s milk or lactose. Additionally, chestnuts are successfully used in cases of anemia, underweight conditions, and during pregnancy due to their folic acid content, often recommended to prevent certain fetal malformations.
\nAnother symbol of autumn is the pear. This fruit contains vitamin C, a powerful antioxidant essential for immune function and the health of skin, bones, and blood vessels. Thanks to its potassium content, pear consumption is especially recommended for athletes and those who need a low-sodium diet, such as hypertensive individuals and those suffering from kidney stones or disorders. Moreover, pears, because of their high fiber content, promote a feeling of fullness and thus support weight loss. The flavonoids present also help control blood sugar levels; pear consumption is associated with better insulin sensitivity and the prevention of type 2 diabetes.
\nFinally, we come to grapes. They are rich in sugars that are directly assimilable, such as glucose, fructose, and mannose; they also contain organic acids, minerals, vitamins A, B, and C, tannins, and polyphenols. Grapes have antioxidant and anticancer properties, mainly due to their polyphenols and resveratrol, found in the skin of black grapes. They also possess antiviral properties thanks to tannic acid and phenols, which can combat the herpes simplex virus. Applying grape juice or must to lips affected by herpes can speed up healing.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
October marks the arrival of autumn.
